Setting hostname on a switch

Hostname is very important if there are hundreds of switches in the network.

Hostname is provided to a switch so that we can identify it. Hostname has to manually configure on a switch.

By default, hostname of a switch is Switch>

Switch>

Below are some of the rules for configuring hostname on a switch.
– It must always start with a letter
– It should end with a letter or digit
– It can be upto 63 characters

Configuring hostname on a Switch

Switch# configure terminal
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
Switch(config)#hostname Access_Switch
Access_Switch(config)#
Access_Switch#

Using show running configuration to check hostname of a switch.

Access_Switch#show running-config | i hostname
hostname Access_Switch
